‘Letting Go’ of our kids!

Posted in

In the winter break, when I looked at pictures of my kids when they were babies, it pulled at my heart! They have grown up so fast that now I miss their ‘babyhood’ days. I was reminiscing the days when were they were cute babies, totally dependent on me.

Festivities All Around

‘Dusserra’ was just round the corner, Halloween tricked us by, ‘Diwali’ is at a stone’s throw away and then, Thanksgiving would march by. It is always overwhelming to celebrate so many festivals in the US. My kids enjoy all the festivals as much as I did when I was a kid. Enjoying Thanksgiving and Christmas with friends is a very common sight in the US.

Parents, Eat and Let Eat!

Don’t blame the kids, blame the parents! I know, a lot of parents’ eyes would be glaring at this with anger or would have stopped reading this by now. But wait a moment! Read through this before you form any opinion. I was just talking about the eating habits of kids!

How to raise Ideal children?

Most Children analysis that I do is of kids who are mostly from pretty well to do families. I have noticed that most of them have this one trait in common. I am not saying all but most lack the ability to maintain. This has the following manifestations

* Take things for granted
* Don't value the cost of things
* Throw away things after using it once - eg. CD's will be w/o covers etc

Courage to Confront.. Yousufzai Malala, who taught us to Fight

By now most people know the name of Yousufzai Malala. When I narrated her brave story to my daughter, she looked at me and asked “Will you allow me to do the same thing if I wanted?” her question set me thinking.

Broken Relationships

A relationship is like a china cup, once broken can be mended, but a crack is always there.
I read this when I was a teenager, an age when you collect quotes and poems, with a feeling of butterflies in your stomach. I still remember it like yesterday because it didn’t make sense to me then, but it does now.

Vanishing Childhood

My best friend called me, when I was grilling my younger son on his Geometry test for the next day. I told her that I will call her later, as I was in the parking lot of the music school. My older child was in his music class and the younger one finishing his home-work in the car with me.

'Growing’ Kids in the US

It is so difficult at times to tell our kids about India’s culture in one breathe, as it is so vast! Being from a conservative country as India, it is all the more difficult to get used to the ways and means of life in the US. I remember when my kid was stepping into the middle school and she had just learnt about ‘FLASH’ in 5th grade.
