Anarkalis - Spreading Glamorous Essence

Anarkalis have been in and out of fashion. Of late, the hottest emerging trend is that of Anarkali style outfits, and has become a celebrated style on and off runway.

Indian women seem to be returning to roots, or at least it has been suggested in the latest trend of Anarkali suits, kurtis and tunics. It is something inspired from 90s and also the mughal era. There comes printed and embroidered styled Anarkali suits that looks highly gorgeous and feminine. There comes different variation in anarkalis, some with churidars whereas others are so very long like gown and doesn't really need churidar under it. Also we see change in style, flaring and kali cuts.

After the 80s we first saw Anarkalis when Madhuri Dixit sported the style; it was later worn by stars like Juhi Chawla, Neelam Kothari, Karisma Kapoor, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and few others in their different film looks.

Off late, the traditional 80s and 90s attire has become a wardrobe must-have for many stars and celebrities, the trend of stylish and elegant Anarkalis is being followed by many of them for different shows and functions. Kareena Kapoor loves Anarkalis in all the form especially one designed by designer friend Manish, we spotted her in white embroidered Anarkali for LFW, Aishwarya keeps it simple an elegant in off–white Anarkali by designer friend Manish, Sonam Kapoor looks glamorous in white Anarkali by designer friend Anamika Khanna, Kiran Rao keeps it natural in Sabyasachi for a reception, Rani Mukherjee wears colourful Anarkali by Sabyasachi, Madhuri Dixit was spotted in beautiful Anarkali by Manish for a TV show, Priyanka Chopra wore an embroidered Anarkali by Manish for a fashion show.

Designers have there own signature style which has spread the essence of fashionable Anarkali, they are so playful that any great mind can create it's own Anarkali look like Manish Malhotra designs glamorous anarkalis in whites and other natural shades, Sabyasachi has his own approach of making traditional anarkalis in Indian hues, Tarun Tahiliani has the royal spread in all the shades especially golden, Anupama Dayal keeps it colourful, Arnab Sengupta loves traditional hues especially red, Anamika Khanna has it all her attractive signature style and many more. Of course we also have bollywood and celebrity designer Manish Malhotra, his anarkalis could be spotted out anywhere in the world, the glitterati and glamorous style makes it very unique and feminine.

 

Celebrity designer Manish Malhotra feels, "Anarkalis are sensational and look gorgeous. It's something fit for most occasions. I feel there is so much to play around with anarkalis I can do anything with it. It has so many looks be it royal, traditional, sensational, modern and lots more. The utterly wonderful cut gives a true feminine sense. I am really fond of it, the tailored pattern with Indian motifs and chikankari added with net layering, it is a wonderful amalgamation of Indian craft also simple silhouette highlighted with broad gota at the hem, makes it more stylish. I don't prefer changing my style for the reason that its the uniqueness of 'Manish Malhotra'."

Arnab Sen Gupta is into Anarkalis since last three years; he shares, "Anarkalis have become a very trendy yet traditional attire now-a-days. They became popular in the 90s when we first saw Madhuri Dixit wear it, later followed by other actors. The glamorous attire made a come back after a decade by the most talented Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Now we see Anarkalis as the hottest trend as it was something overlooked for many years and that being a reason, almost all the designers are into designing beautiful anarkalis in their unique pattern and style. Moreover, not only in India, western country designers are also in smart and sensual anarkalis, they are not into traditional stuff but halter neck kalis in tunics and tops rule the card."

Talking about the uniqueness of the style, he adds, "Anarkalis are something very dressy, traditional and has a very comfortable feel of the garment. It has a wide open flare that makes one look tall and confident. There are loads of cuts being in anarkalis recently, for instance, wide flared kali from shoulder, mughal styled kali and regular kali flare from mid waist. I love designing anarkalis, its something I am doing it since last two to three years. My Anarkalis are very trendy and feminine I keep changing the style with the season. I keep it simple in summers with lighter hues whereas it goes heavy embroidered for bridals and for winters I team it up with jackets and shrugs in darker hues."

Arnab also shares, "My Anarkalis are very playful and experimental; there are churi, three-quarter, balloon and cap sleeves whereas the flare changes from high to mid to low length. In recent Anarkalis, I have increased the length, which goes best like a traditional gown without churidars. It gives a nice look to the fashion feminists. I feel traditional coloured Anarkalis look killing also at times black, white and mauve looks attarctive. Tall person always suits for everything for an apt cut in Anarkalis one should judge whether a particular cut suits or doesn't as it depends on body types. Just that obese should check suitable anarkalis probably with low flaring as it highlights the extra kilos."
