His soulful voice has distinguished him from all other voices and given him recognition as a versatile singer. Sufi, folk, Bollywood or Tollywood, he has sung it all. In conversation with Keerthi Sagathia, recently his mesmerizing voice has moved the Indians all over the world. Yes it is Keerthi who has sung the theme song for Aamir Khan's hit TV show Satyamev Jayate. The powerful song "Hain Junoon Hain...Hain Junoon Hain...Tera Ishq Ka Hain Junoon Hain" reflects the love for the country.
In this tete a tete with B'Khush, Keerthi has talked about his musical journey as a playback singer, his association with the Satyamev Jayate team and much more...Sit back and know the man behind the powerful voice.
When did you realize that you wanted to be a singer?
Keerthi : From the time I opened my eyes in this world, I saw my dad, grandmother, grandfather singing. So I grew up singing. But, to be a playback singer the realization began when I was assisting my dad while he was singing for HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM.
You belong to a renowned musical family. How has your family inspired you?
Keerthi : It's because of my family and music, that runs in my blood that I am here today. My dad has been the biggest source of information and also my First GURU. Till date his singing inspires me.
.In 2005 you were one one of the favorite contestants of "Fame Gurukul". Do you think such shows can really help aspiring singers to reach their goals?
Keerthi : No, I feel reality shows misguide singers, just for TRP’s these channels can eliminate true singers but take entertaining singers forward. So I feel a real singer & an entertainer are completely different. With this a entertainer gets money, fame, shows but the motive of being a playback singer is lost.
How would you describe your journey so far as a playback singer in Bollywood?
Keerthi : Lots of learning that takes place. Each recording teaches me something new & adapting to new ideas from talented music directors & musicians. This journey has not only taught me singing but made me learn the technicalities of today’s world.
The song "Beera Beera" from the film Raavan was a superhit and you had the opportunity to work with
the legendary A.R Rahman, how was the entire experience?
Keerthi: A.R.Rahman is every singer's desired music director, working with him built in more confidence within me. I was his studio for Swarnin Gujarat’s project but he called me the other day to the studio to sing for “Beera Beera’ Raavan. But the journey continued ahead worked for ROBOT also. Looking to work more with him in future.
.Do you think your unconventional voice has helped you as a playback singer?
Keerthi : Yes absolutely, because my voice has given me my identity. Which is different from others & this is what is needed to be a singer.
Nakkadwale Disco, Switty Switty, I Hate You - from the movie Delhi Belly were some of your superhit chatbusters in 2011.With audience appreciating such different genres of music, Do you think Bollywood music is undergoing a change?
Keerthi : Yes, definitely it's changing as young ideas are coming up & people love it. I believe its still going to change more.
You are the playback singer of the theme song of "Satyamev Jayate", how did it happen and how does it feel to be a part of such a great initiative?
Keerthi: As usual, I got a call from Ram Sampath’s studio for a recording. There were two songs we were to record but once we recorded this track we were sure Aamir would love it, as the feel was fresh & different than a normal patriotic song. However, while recording this song I wasn’t aware about the concept or format of the show. But seeing the show & its response “I am so proud to be a part of this project”.
What are the current projects that you are working on?
Keerthi : There are lots of projects happening, with different music directors. I believe let my work speak & I love giving surprises to my fans. People have loved my song from Shanghai – “Bharat mata ki jai”…!! So enjoying this appreciation as well
Finally a meassage for our readers.
Keerthi : Please continue to encourage new singers & new styles. I am going to put in efforts to give new styles. Donot ever encourage PIRACY, every purchase of original cd will give birth to new music album & encourage music companies to invest in talent. Keep Listening to music & God Bless.
Enjoy it once more..
