The Moori Seller

Posted in

The rustic charm, simplicity and the broad smile of this man attracted me the first day he came to my door step one summer afternoon. He kept the huge sack, he was carrying on his head on the floor of the terrace and grinned at me from the doorway saying it’s so cool under the shade .He opened his big sack and offered me a fistful of puffed rice to taste.
The puffed rice were crispy and fresh. He had several small sacks. He opened each one by one showing me the contents-flattened rice, chikki (a savoury made of ground nuts and jaggery) and another savoury made of jaggery and puffed rice. When I said that I don’t need so many things, he convinced me saying those were all country made products and were good for health. I bought almost all the products.

The man comes again after two weeks. Though the items I bought from him were not yet consumed ,I took one box full of muri (puffed rice )because I didn’t want to disappoint him and I told him the other products were still there. Once again he could convince me saying that I must store them in the refrigerator and should eat one chikki everyday as those country made things are healthy. I was amazed at the marketing strategy of the simple rustic chap.
