Staying Cool but Looking Hot

Posted in

How to make your make-up last in summer? simple. Make it plain and minimal. It is just as important to change your make up according to the season, as it is to modify your clothing.  Today, there are numerous products that can make your make-up last for quite a few hours but  the key is to reapply it.

In summer, opt for lightweight and less oily products than cream-based items that have residual oils. Choose products that have sunscreen protection factor. Avoid foundation if possible. But,  if necessary apply it to the center of the face, avoiding the hairline. You can also mix your everyday foundation with an oil-free moisturizer. This blends well to your skin, making it look more natural and even with no streaks to spoil the effect. If you have skin blemishes, opt for concealer to hide the skin imperfections instead of a foundation. However, Deepa Kutan, a stylist says, “ For a softer look during the summer avoid all items like foundation, concealer etc and apply just tinted  moisturizers.”

For eye shadows warm shades like bronze or coral works best. The heat can cause you to sweat, smudging your eye shadow. Hence, it is advisable to apply a primer before wearing your eye shadow to avoid smudging. Limit the mascara to one coat for a natural look. Opt for waterproof mascara and swap your black one for a brown or brown-black. Coat only a fine line with eyeliner, if you are using one.

Shun lip liner. Always  keep your lips moisturized and healthy. Opt for lip balms and gloss that has an SPF.  Moisture-rich lipsticks are better options during the summer months. Avoid applying foundation or face powder below your lipstick as it will make your lips appear cakey.  Deepa Kutan says, “ Lip gloss is the best choice as nude lips look so much more natural and fresh. Simply lining with a pencil and applying lip gloss is the best bet.” Keep your lip pencils and eye pencils in the freezer for around 20 mts before you sharpen them so that they don’t crumble.

Use loose powder. Pressed powder can cluster when it comes in contact with moisture and create a paste like residue. It can also appear heavy and unnatural. When you reapply, do it only with loose powder.

You might need a little more of your blush for the summer. Opt for subtle colors such as soft pink. Powder bronzers are quite simple to apply. Deepa Kutan adds, “While applying bronzers, apply them to the high points of your face [forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin], as they make you look more fresh and natural.”

Religiously rub sunscreen over your face and the exposed parts every two hours. Combat summer skin issues with a rich night time treatment, so that you don’t have to conceal a lot in the morning.  “ A proper skin care regimen should also be followed to make things simpler and less complicated.  In addition, drink lots of water and keep your body hydrated at all times,” signs off Deepa Kutan.
